// TTU - Tech Day '09

SITUATION

The Texas Tech University Alumni Association (TTUAA) is responsible for maintaining and encouraging involvement and support between the university and its alumni nationwide. TTUAA is a fundraising organization, as well as an advocate for the university to the legislature. Every other year, members of the association gather in Austin at the Capitol to lobby for funding for Texas Tech.

OBJECTIVE

The goal for the 2009 visit to Austin was to gather as many of the legislators as possible to a mixer. It was also important to show attendees the ties between all parts of the Texas Tech University System: Texas Tech University, Angelo State University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Ultimately, the system is seeking enough funding and support to attain Tier One status.

SOLUTION

TPG created the invitation to the reception as an opportunity to join the “system.” A save-the-date card with a key attached was sent to each of the legislators. Later, a custom box was hand-delivered. The key unlocked the box to reveal a hand-written note indicating how many TTU alumni were in the recipient’s district, along with a handbook containing “treasures” about the TTU system.

RESULTS

The response to the project was overwhelming; attendence of the reception reached an all-time high. Some members of the legislature commented that this was the most impressive presentation they had ever received. The Alumni Association was quite pleased, considering the competition TTU faces from dozens of other Texas universities vying for legislative attention.
