4th on Broadway Honors "Home of the Free, Because of the Brave" in 2011 Celebration
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Come and celebrate our nation's independence with a parade, live music, food and fun at the 2011 4th on Broadway celebration Sunday, July 3 and Monday, July 4 in Lubbock.
Lubbock Apartment Association Street Dance
This year's celebration kicks off with the annual Street Dance. Sponsored by the Lubbock Apartment Association and hosted by KLLL and Fox34, gates open at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 3. The dance will be held on the street at Broadway and Texas Avenue. This year the dance will feature live music from Texas country favorite, Casey Donahew Band, with opening performances by the William Clark Green Band and Hat Trick. Tickets are $10 and are on sale now at all Select-A-Seat outlets and www.selectaseatlubbock.com. Tickets will be available at the gate on the evening of the event.
McDougal Companies Parade
This Lubbock tradition is a family favorite, and 2011 promises to be a patriotic and entertaining parade! The McDougal Companies 4th on Broadway Parade, hosted by KLBK, will include formal military formations of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard; veterans from all conflicts, fly-bys and the traditional floats from a myriad of civic organizations. The parade begins down Broadway from Avenue Q towards University Avenue at 9:00 a.m. Families are encouraged to come early to take their place on the sidewalks.
Wells Fargo Street Fair
Immediately after the Parade, the Wells Fargo Street Fair, hosted by KAMC, will get underway. On Broadway from University to Avenue Q folks can taste food from more than 50 delicious food and drink vendors and hear live music from more than 100 artists on nine music stages throughout the day. Once again, the Street Fair will offer three cantina locations for adults wishing to enjoy cold beer. As always, the Kids' Area, sponsored by Covenant Health System, will have activities for kids to enjoy. Also returning this year will be the College Baseball Hall of Fame FanFest.
PlainsCapital Bank Evening Concert and Gandy's Fireworks Extravaganza
As a result of the county-wide ban on fireworks this year, organizers made the difficult decision to cancel the Evening Concert and Fireworks Extravaganza this year.
"First and foremost, public safety is and will always be Broadway Festivals' first priority. There is high level of concern for a gathering of 50,000+ people essentially sitting on top of kindling in conditions that are so quick to ignite," said Broadway Festivals Board President Phyllis Jones.
"Second, Broadway Festivals prides itself on the quality and variety of entertainment that we are able to provide year after year. This year, Mother Nature has thrown a wrench in the works, and we never want to deliver a sub-par event. "
Jones continued, "To that end, we felt that the only choice we could make was to cancel the Mackenzie Park events for this year."
The 4th on Broadway celebration is the largest free festival in Texas and has been providing delicious food and quality entertainment to the Lubbock community for more than 20 years.
The mission of Broadway Festivals is to enhance the quality of life and embrace the unique history, heritage and culture for all citizens of Lubbock and the Llano Estacado region by promoting the arts and tourism while contributing to the area's economic vitality.
